Tips

These weekly toddler themes are meant to be fun, not stressful.  The number one thing to remember is to keep everything simple.  If it's not simple, you more than likely won't stick with it.  And who wants to miss out on all this fun?!

KEEP IT LIGHT.  I've already done a full year of themes with my 2 year old and I still have to remind myself that I'm working with a toddler.  I can't even tell you the number of times she's taken one of my carefully crafted activities and ripped it to proverbial (and sometimes literal) shreds.  But hey, I'm just trying to expose her to new things not conquer some educational milestone.  Mission accomplished.  She didn't like it...moving on.

DON'T PLAN...OR PLAN.  There are two ways that I could see you taking on these themes.  The easiest way is to subscribe to this blog and then just complete the themes right along with me.  The themes will show up in your inbox each week.  Easy!  If you are the planning type, you might want to browse the themes I've already posted and plan out your own weeks (KISS Tip: Take 15 minutes at the beginning of the month and plan out several weeks at once).  You can use this Weekly planning sheet printable to help keep track of your notes and hang it on the fridge.  That's how I do it.

EXPLOIT HOLIDAYS.  Some of our favorite theme weeks are based on single day holidays.  Blow out a holiday and turn it into a weeklong exploration.  The best part is you'll get lots of help with the theme through community activities (parades, festivals, other events).  And that's when the stores carry neat items to complement your theme (little flags, ornament kits, etc).

MEET MY FRIEND, TARGET DOLLAR SPOT.
I don't work for Target, but seriously I should.  No, seriously.  I actually don't like to buy a lot of junk and I work very hard to keep our household clutter-free, but I do love the Target Dollar Spot.  I take a spin through it every week.  It's located by one of the entrances and it houses a rotating selection of $1 and $3 items.  They usually always have craft items (good stuff to build up your theme week supplies cheaply), seasonal/holiday items, and kid activities.
